Witches Tea Plantations and Lives of Migrant Laborers in India Book Description:

Witches, Tea Plantations, and Lives of Migrant Laborers in India: Tempest in Teapot is a unique book that brings together a holistic theoretical approach on the subject of witchcraft accusations, specifically those taking place inside a tea workers' community in India. Using a combination of in-depth and extensive qualitative methods, and drawing on sociological, anthropological, and historical perspectives, Chaudhuri explores how adivasi (tribal) migrant workers use witchcraft accusations to deal with worker-management conflict. Chaudhuri argues that witchcraft accusations can be interpreted as a periodic reaction of the adivasi worker community against their oppression by the plantation management. The typical avenues of social protest are often unavailable to marginalized workers due to lack of organizational and political representation and resources. As a result, the dain (witch) becomes a scapegoat for the malice of the plantation economy. Within this discourse, witch hunts can be seen not as exotic and primitive rituals of a backward community, but rather as a powerful protest by a community against its oppressors. The book attempts to understand the complex network of relationships—ties of friendship, family, politics, and gender—that provide the necessary legitimacy for the witch hunt to take place. In most cases examined here, seemingly petty conflicts within the villagers often escalate to a hunt. At the height of the conflict, the exploitative relationship between the plantation management and the adivasi migrant workers often gets hidden. The book demonstrates how witchcraft accusations should be interpreted within this backdrop of labor-planters relationship, characterized by rigidity of power, patronage, and social distance. Witches, Tea Plantations, and Lives of Migrant Laborers in India should appeal to criminologists, sociologists, anthropologists, labor historians, gender scholars, labor migration scholars, witch hunt and witchcraft accusation global scholars, adivasi scholars, South Asian scholars, and anyone interested in India’s tribes, witchcraft accusations, gender in a global world, labor conflict, and Indian tea plantations.

The Deacon s Story Book Description:

There is always a thin line between a lie and the truth. So, one must walk in the Holy Spirit in order to keep from being deceived. The most of us, it does not matter whether we're Priest, Deacons, religious, laity, or whoever we are, we can all be deceived. As I have said, there's a thin line between the truth and a lie".

PSI Book Description:

PSI or parapsychological phenomena have been investigated by serious researchers for well over a century. Despite some diehard skeptics, the existence of PSI has now been solidly established by competent scientists using the most rigorous methodologies. Yet, a complete understanding of the phenomena of telepathy, precognition, clairvoyance, and psychokinesis has remained elusive for two reasons. First, a new worldview was needed to replace the outdated materialism assumed by so many scientists and philosophers. That view, “Mental Realism,” was developed in Keith Chandler’s last book, The Mind Paradigm: A Unified Model of Mental and Physical Reality. Second, a thorough review of the evidence for PSI was required to expose the erroneous assumptions that had hindered its theoretical progress. That task has been successfully undertaken by the author enabling him to entitle this book simply: PSI: What it is and How it works. With this book, Keith Chandler has now brought us full circle from the clockwork, sensory-bound world of Descartes and Newton to an understanding of our universe as a manifestation of purposeful, intelligent psychic energy. He has also finally removed parapsychology from the category of the “occult” and placed it where it belongs, in the domain of legitimate science.

The Good Wife s Guide Le M nagier de Paris Book Description:

"You said that you would not fail to improve yourself according to my teaching and correction, and you would do everything in your power to behave according to my wishes." [Prologue] "I urge you to bewitch and bewitch again your future husband, and protect him from holes in the roof and smoky fires, and do not quarrel with him, but be sweet, pleasant and peaceful with him. Make certain that in winter he has a good fire without smoke and let him slumber, warmly wrapped, cozy between your breasts, and in this way bewitch him. In summer take care that there are no fleas in your bedroom or bed." "If just once you displease him you will have a difficult time ever appeasing him enough so that the stain of his anger does not remain engraved and written on his heart. Although he may not show it or mention it, your misdeed cannot soon be smoothed over and erased. Should a second act of disobedience occur, watch out for his vengeance... " "Gardeners say that rosemary seeds do not ever grow in French soil, but if you pluck little branches from a rosemary plant, strip them from the top downwards, take them by the ends and plant them, they will grow. If you want to send them far away, you must wrap the branches in waxed cloth, sew them up and then smear the outside with honey; then powder with wheat flour and you may send them wherever you wish." "But as soon as you arrive home, be diligent that you yourself or your men ahead of you, feed the dogs well, then give them fresh clean water in a basin to drink. Next have them put to bed on nice straw in a warm place, in front of the fire if they are wet or muddy, and let them always be held subject to the whip. If you act this way, they will not pester people at the table or sideboard and they will not get into the beds." "Since you must send Master Jehan to the butcher's shop, a list follows of the names of all the butchers' shops in Paris and the meats that they supply: At the Porte-de-Paris there are nineteen butchers who by common estimate sell weekly, if you average the busy season with the slow season: 1,900 sheep, 400 beefcattle, 400 pigs and 200 calves." —from The Good Wife's Guide In the closing years of the fourteenth century, an anonymous French writer compiled a book addressed to a fifteen-year-old bride, narrated in the voice of her husband, a wealthy, aging Parisian. The book was designed to teach this young wife the moral attributes, duties, and conduct befitting a woman of her station in society, in the almost certain event of her widowhood and subsequent remarriage. The work also provides a rich assembly of practical materials for the wife's use and for her household, including treatises on gardening and shopping, tips on choosing servants, directions on the medical care of horses and the training of hawks, plus menus for elaborate feasts, and more than 380 recipes. The Good Wife's Guide is the first complete modern English translation of this important medieval text also known as Le Ménagier de Paris (the Parisian household book), a work long recognized for its unique insights into the domestic life of the bourgeoisie during the later Middle Ages. The Good Wife's Guide, expertly rendered into modern English by Gina L. Greco and Christine M. Rose, is accompanied by an informative critical introduction setting the work in its proper medieval context as a conduct manual. This edition presents the book in its entirety, as it must have existed for its earliest readers. The Guide is now a treasure for the classroom, appealing to anyone studying medieval literature or history or considering the complex lives of medieval women. It illuminates the milieu and composition process of medieval authors and will in turn fascinate cooking or horticulture enthusiasts. The work illustrates how a (perhaps fictional) Parisian householder of the late fourteenth century might well have trained his wife so that her behavior could reflect honorably on him and enhance his reputation.

When God Speaks Who Will Listen Book Description:

When I was young, I was mysteriously protected and kept from harm. I was hit by a car, severely burned on the palms of my hands, and literally thrown out of a car into a busy intersection. Somehow I never sustained any injuries. I had many questions as this divine protection and provision continued throughout my life. Little did I know that what I endured was part of a plan for me to know what I have now learned, and share this with all who will listen. These adventures with our heavenly Father not only gave me answers to my questions but also much understanding of our Father and His works. This book tells about my adventures and part of what I learned. It is the beginning of a series of books containing what our Father has taught me. It was not easy for me to hear. It was not easy for me to write. It is always difficult for us to listen to Him. All He is asking now is for us to listen to what He has told us from the beginning and respond.
