No Means No Book Description:

¿Whatever the example, children live and grow by that example.¿ No, Means NO! is a story that every child should hear, because child predators do not announce their arrival in a child¿s life. To the contrary, they strategically maneuver into children¿s lives in a very concealing and sly manner. They are camouflaged right before our very eyes. Many times, they remain in children¿s lives for a long time. (And even once is a long time.) It is up to us, as responsible adults, to let children know that if they are sexually abused, or fearful of being abused, they must tell someone. Children need to know that no matter what a predator says to make them not tell anyone, ¿TELL ANYWAY!¿ No, Means NO! was written to support children against sexual abuse and to support bonding between adults and children. Hopefully, this level of healthy bonding will support children enough to encourage them to speak out, if ever needed, against sexual abuse. About the Author Y. Taylor encourages the nurturing of children. She believes that, ideally, nurturing begins before birth. She understands that children¿s healthy minds play a large part concerning their successful development. It is her desire to encourage more adults to share significant time with young people. Taylor regards children¿s opinions with much contemplation. Through her simple stories, she attempts to capture voices and feelings of the younger population. Just as importantly, she hopes to encourage quality bonding time between youth and adults. A native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Taylor teaches and has served as an administrator of special education. Taylor is married and has two children. Her children have served as advisors for her stories.

Addressing Rape Reform in Law and Practice Book Description:

The first comprehensive book on rape since Susan Brownmiller's Against Our Will and Susan Estrich's Real Rape, this volume probes every aspect of rape law and the discrepancies between ideal law (on the books) and real law (in action). Susan Caringella canvasses the success and failure of reform in the United States, as well as Australia, Britain, Canada, and New Zealand, and assesses alternative perspectives on rape reform, making use of theoretical models, court cases and statistical data. She uniquely delineates a creative model for change while addressing the discretion that undermines efforts at change. This includes charging the accused and plea bargaining, confronting a lack of transparency and accountability in implementing law, and acquiring funding for such changes.

Criminalizing Sex Book Description:

"Starting in the latter part of the 20th century, the law of sexual offenses, especially in the West, began to reflect a striking divergence. On the one hand, the law became significantly more punitive in its approach to sexual conduct that is nonconsensual or unwanted, as evidenced by a major expansion in the definition of rape and sexual assault, and the creation of new offenses like sex trafficking, child grooming, revenge porn, and female genital mutilation. On the other hand, it became markedly more permissive in how it dealt with conduct that is consensual, a trend that can be seen, for example, in the legalization or decriminalization of sodomy, adultery, and adult pornography. This book explores the conceptual and normative implications of this divergence. In doing so, it assumes that the proper role of the criminal law in a liberal state is to protect individuals in their right not to be subjected to sexual contact against their will, while also safeguarding their right to engage in (private consensual) sexual conduct in which they do wish to participate. Although consistent in the abstract, these dual aims frequently come into conflict in practice. The book develops a framework for harmonization in the context of a wide range of nonconsensual, consensual, and aconsensual sexual offenses (hence, the "unified" nature of the theory) -- including rape-as-unconsented-to-sex, rape-by-deceit, rape-by-coercion, rape of a person who lacks capacity to consent, statutory rape, abuse of position, sexual harassment, voyeurism, indecent exposure, incest, sadomasochistic assault, prostitution, bestiality, and necrophilia"--

Discourse Theory and Practice is much more than a collection of key classic articles and papers in the field of discourse analysis. The aim of the book is to introduce students to the major figures in the field, and to some of their writings which, combined with the interspersed editorial commentaries, should allow students to understand the key epistemological and methodological issues of discourse theory and practice. The Reader is organized into four coherent Parts, namely: Foundations and Building Blocks; Social Interaction; Minds, Selves and Sense-Making; and Culture and Social Relations. Key readings include works by Stuart Hall, Jonathan Potter, David Silverman, Erving Goffman, Teun van Dijk, Derek Edwards and Michael Billig. Chapters introduce the student to each individual and their reading, contextualizing each in terms of their contribution to the field, theoretical standpoint and individual method of doing discourse analysis. Mediated Intimacy Book Description:

Mediated Intimacy looks at contemporary sex and relationship advice, exploring how our intimate lives are shaped through different media, from manuals and magazines to television and Twitter. By exploring how intimacy is constructed through different media texts, the authors consider which ideas and practices these changing forms of 'sexpertise' open up, and which they close down. The book reveals the intimate operation of power in mediated advice, how words and images, stories and sound can work to shore up social injustice. It critically engages with the ideas of choice and responsibility in sex self-help, arguing that these can obscure and/or justify oppression, even if they're sometimes experienced as empowering and/or pleasurable. This bold and incisive book provides a radical challenge to the assumptions underlying the sex advice industry, and presents a critical, collaborative and consensual vision for sex advice of the future.
