Solvent Recovery Handbook Book Description:

The pressure is on to cut plant emissions while still maintaining a cost-effective operation. Choosing the best solvent, being aware of potential problems, and the recovery of solvents has never been so important. Traditionally, solvents had been chosen on the basis of whether they can do the job effectively and economically. However, with regulations on exposure to solvent vapors becoming more stringent, selecting the solvent that meets regulatory, efficiency, and economical criteria as early as possible in the process has become paramount. Solvent Recovery Handbook, Second Edition sets out the physical properties of the fifty most commonly used solvents. The book supplies information on their behavior during and after use, health and fire hazards, the photochemical ozone creation potential (POCP), and recovery processes including practical aspects of the design and operation of batch stills. It delivers state-of-the art coverage of every available recovery and disposal technology - including removing solvents from gas, water, and residues, separating used solvents, and drying solvents. What's more, you'll find fact-filled sections on the latest equipment, safe effective operating procedures, choosing solvents with recovery in mind, and much more. Updated and expanded, Ian Smallwood's Solvent Recovery Handbook, Second Edition hands you all the practical tools you need to efficiently and cost-effectively process harmful organic solvents after re-capture.

Mathematical Theory of Oil and Gas Recovery Book Description:

It is a pleasure to be asked to write the foreword to this interesting new book. When Professor Bedrikovetsky first accepted my invitation to spend an extended sabbatical period in the Department of Mineral Resources Engineering at Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, I hoped it would be a period of fruitful collaboration. This book, a short course and a variety of technical papers are tangible evidence of a successful stay in the UK. I am also pleased that Professor Bedrikovetsky acted on my suggestion to publish this book with Kluwer as part of the petroleum publications for which I am Series Editor. The book derives much of its origin from the unpublished Doctor of Science thesis which Professor Bedrikovetsky prepared in Russian while at the Gubkin Institute. The original DSc contained a number of discrete publications unified by an analytical mathematics approach to fluid flow in petroleum reservoirs. During his sabbatical stay at Imperial College, Professor Bedrikovetsky has refined and extended many of the chapters and has discussed each one with internationally recognised experts in the field. He received great encouragement and editorial advice from Dr Gren Rowan, who pioneered analytical methods in reservoir modelling at BP for many years.

Addiction to Recovery Book Description:

This book, Addiction to Recovery: Unlocking Your Potential, is an accumulation of existential realization, many resources, years of recovery, education, insights, and years working in the field of addiction, with all adepts in the goal of personal transformation from addiction to recovery. This is an integrative approach to living in wellness of recovery. I vacated my own mind through deep personal process, my own form of meditation, and this book came about. My hope is this book unlocks the potential that advances new insight into the recovery process for each individual by reframing the process in such a way that the right interpretation by the reader will help recovery click into place. What we need to celebrate in recovery is the self-discovery of the individual. I offer my carefully considered overviews and assessments on the best-known treatments (theories) connected to recovery. I have provided a new outlook as a guide for the unwary who had failed at recovery in the past and those just coming into recovery for the first time. I count myself among the autodidacts, the self-taught perpetual student fueled by a passion for new answers and a sense of mission.

Road to Recovery Book Description:

Singapore had been one of the nations severely affected by the 2008-09 global financial and economic crisis. The city state came under pressure through the financial, trade, and confidence channels. To counter these shocks, Singapore policymakers undertook unprecedented monetary and fiscal policy measures. They subsequently charted a revival strategy that would help the country emerge stronger after the crisis. These all-encompassing policies together with the global economic recovery in 2009 helped the city state bounce back faster and stronger than many other regional economies. This book provides an insight into the events that occurred during the crisis and Singapore's successful navigation to economic recovery. "Although much has been written about the global financial crisis of 2008-09, not enough has been said about how it affected Singapore and the policy response. In this highly readable book, Sanchita Basu Das fills this gap, explaining how the crisis rippled through the Singapore economy via trade channels, the financial sector, and asset markets. But the greatest strength of this volume is its comprehensive account of the extraordinary measures Singapore put in place to deal pre-emptively with what could have been huge declines in output and employment in the face of the collapse of trade and credit flows. Singapore's multi-pronged approach, and especially the fiscal support and loan guarantees contained in the 2009 budget, must go down as one of the boldest and most creative policy responses to a crisis. It is a valuable lesson to economics students and practitioners alike. This book gives you the full story." -Vikram Khanna, Associate Editor, The Business Times "Sanchita Basu Das is to be congratulated for providing a fascinating, accessible, and forward-looking analysis of Singapore's response to the global economic crisis of 2008-09. As a highly trade-dependent economy, Singapore was hit hard by these events. But the government was nimble and quick to react. The author describes and evaluates this response, and draws out general lessons for crisis management and mitigation in small open economies. Highly recommended." -Hal Hill, H.W. Arndt Professor of Southeast Asian Economies, Australian National University."This is a comprehensive account of the impact of the global financial crisis on Singapore -- one of the most open economies in the world -- and policy responses by the government and central bank. The book identifies the need to move to a more knowledge-intensive economy as the key policy challenge for post-crisis Singapore." -Masahiro Kawai, Dean and CEO, Asian Development Bank Institute "Singapore was affected disproportionately by the global economic crisis of 2008-09. While it is currently rebounding impressively, government officials and the private sector would do well to learn from the crisis experience in devising future policies. Moreover, the Singapore experience is instructive as to how external economic shocks can be transmitted to open economies and, hence, has great relevance beyond its borders. This book by Sanchita Basu Das gives a comprehensive survey of Singapore in crisis and provides a wealth of information and insightful analysis, using clear, non-technical language. It is extremely useful contribution to scholars, policymakers, and other students of Asian economics." -Michael G. Plummer, Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)

Recovery Act Factors Affecting the Department of Energy s Program Implementation Book Description:

The Amer. Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Recovery Act) -- initially estimated to cost $787 billion in spending and tax provisions -- aims to promote economic recovery, make investments, and minimize or avoid reductions in state and local government services. The Recovery Act provided the Dept. of Energy (DoE) more than $43.2 billion, including $36.7 billion for projects and activities and $6.5 billion in borrowing authority, in areas such as energy efficiency and renewable energy, nuclear waste clean-up, and electric grid modernization. This testimony discusses: (1) the extent to which DoE has obligated and spent its Recovery Act funds; and (2) the factors that have affected DoE's ability to select and start Recovery Act projects.
